D is for Denzel

As readers of this blog may or may not know, Denzel Washington is an alumnus of Fordham University. October of my sophomore year, Mr. Washington came to talk to students in the theater department. He was in New York promoting his film "Flight" and took some time off from the publicity circuit so that he would be free to talk to us. At the start of the event, the scene shop manager set up our largest, most ornate chair for Mr. Washington at the center of the stage. He took one look at it, shook his head, and pulled up one of the nearby folding chairs. He struck me as a modest, generous, passionate man and a committed actor.
