E is for England

Fall Semester of my junior year I studied abroad in England through Fordham's London Dramatic Academy (LDA). In 14 weeks, I learned more about acting, theater, and life than I ever thought possible. One of my favorite shows on the West End, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, is now in NYC on Broadway. I got to see dozens of shows in London thanks to the LDA, from mainstream West End shows (I laughed my bum off at One Man, Two Guvnors) to newer works at the Royal Court Theater (including The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas). Most importantly, I met 15 amazing & talented people who shared my passion for theater and performance.

D is for Denzel

As readers of this blog may or may not know, Denzel Washington is an alumnus of Fordham University. October of my sophomore year, Mr. Washington came to talk to students in the theater department. He was in New York promoting his film "Flight" and took some time off from the publicity circuit so that he would be free to talk to us. At the start of the event, the scene shop manager set up our largest, most ornate chair for Mr. Washington at the center of the stage. He took one look at it, shook his head, and pulled up one of the nearby folding chairs. He struck me as a modest, generous, passionate man and a committed actor.

C is for Colbert & Cardinals

September of my sophomore year I got the chance to see Stephen Colbert and Cardinal Dolan talk about life, humor, and religion at Fordham's Rose Hill campus. It was a unique chance to see the funny man from the Colbert Report out of character. The Cardinal contributed his usual brand of good-natured humor and a few belly laughs to the conversation. Members of the media weren't allowed into the event: the only people in the auditorium were Fordham students and staff. At the end of the event, Fordham gave both guests gift bags. Stephen Colbert was eager to try on his Fordham tie, which he wore on his show later that week.

B is for Bananas & Barcelona

At the end of my sophomore year, I visited the the pop-up "Arrested Development" Bluth Banana Stand at Columbus Circle with my friend Sam. The line was around the block, but Sam and I didn't care. Even if we were waiting inside a completely blank room, we'd still manage to have fun.

There's always money in the banana stand.

Junior year I was lucky enough to study abroad in England. During our one week break from classes, I travelled to Barcelona with by friends. (To check out more about my time in Europe, take a look at my blog http://corinnelondon.blogspot.com). I got to see Gaudi's famed Sagrada Familia and took a cable car ride up to Montjuic. Can't wait to someday go back to Spain and visit other areas of the country.

A is for Apprentice

During Summer 2014 I took on an internship as an Apprentice at The New Victory Theater in Times Square. It was a pretty sweet place to work--in addition to getting paid to toy around with social media and press reports, I got to see Broadway stars walking in and out of rehearsal spaces. The casts of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and It's Only a Play both rehearsed in the building. My knees nearly buckled when I caught a glimpse of Rupert Grint in the flesh (I am a bit of an extreme Harry Potter fan).

Also, shout-out to Tony nominee Alison Fraser, my former vocal professor. Her class, Song as Scene, allowed me to try out new material in a safe space. She is a lovely, supportive, generous teacher. She even let me interview her for my Theater Journalism class (taught by the incomparable Frank DiLella of NY1 News). If you want to take a peek at my finished video, click here.

First Post | Pre-Alphabet

Hello! Corinne here. I'm currently a second-semester senior at Fordham University, graduating at the end of December. For the next 26 days I plan on reflecting on my undergrad career, providing an A to Z account of choice experiences. Sit back, relax, and get ready for a highly alphabetized narrative of my time as a college kid in NYC.
